Every 90,000 km.

1. The transmission fluid level must be checked at the time/mileage intervals specified in the Specifications. Perform this procedure only after the engine has reached the temperature specified below.

2. The transmission oil level in the automatic transmission depends on the temperature of the transmission oil. Usually the level remains constant if there are no visible leaks. In this case, there is no need to check the oil level. It is recommended to perform this work at an AUDI service station.

3. Before starting work, purchase the transmission fluid specified in the subsection Routine care and maintenance, as well as a new seal for the threaded plug and a new protective cap for the plug. When checking the level and changing the oil, it is necessary to wear protective glasses.

4. Other tools required for this procedure include supports to secure the vehicle in a raised position, a drain container with a capacity of at least 4–5 liters, newspapers and a clean rag.

Warning: Do not start the engine without transmission oil. Also, do not tow the vehicle without ATF oil.

Warning: When carrying out work, it is necessary to carefully monitor cleanliness, since even minor contamination leads to malfunctions in the operation of the AT.

5. Jack up the vehicle and support it securely on supports.

Warning: The transmission oil temperature must not be higher than +30°C when checking the level. This temperature is reached after a short period of engine operation. AUDI service stations connect a diagnostic device to check the temperature. Without using this device, the temperature can only be estimated approximately.

6. When checking ATF oil, its temperature should not be higher than +30°C.

7. The mode selector must be in the "P" position, the air conditioning and heating must be turned off.

8. Place a container underneath to collect the ATF oil. Remove the plug (arrow on the accompanying illustration). The oil in the overflow pipe will drip.

9. Use side cutters to cut the sealing ring at the threaded plug and replace it.

10. Start the engine and let it run until the oil temperature reaches +35°C.

11. If oil flows out of the overflow pipe in the temperature range of +35°C and +45°C, the oil level is normal. In this case, screw in the plug with a new gasket and tighten to a torque of 15 Nm.

If oil does not leak out, add ATF.

Checking the oil condition

12. When checking the automatic transmission fluid level, also check the condition of the oil. To make it easier to check the condition of the oil, compare the color, smell, and viscosity of the oil with new oil.

If the transmission oil is milky, it means that water has gotten into it. This can happen when the car is constantly used for short trips. If the color of the oil does not change after a long trip, it is necessary to change the oil.

13. If the oil is dark brown and sticky, it may be due to overheating of the gearbox or too high oil level in the gearbox. If changing the oil does not help, the car should be brought to a specialized AUDI workshop.

If, when checking the level or changing the oil in the automatic transmission, the presence of dirt particles or metal shavings is detected, it is necessary to carry out diagnostics or repair of the automatic transmission at a specialized AUDI service station.
