Every 90,000 km of run.
1. The transmission fluid level must be checked at specified intervals of time/kilometers. Perform this procedure only after the engine has reached the temperature shown below.
2. The gear oil level in the automatic transmission gearbox depends on the temperature of the gear oil. Usually the level stays constant if no leaks are visible. In this case, there is no need to check the oil level. It is recommended that this work be carried out at an AUDI service station.
3. Before starting work, purchase the transmission fluid specified in subsection Ongoing care and maintenance, as well as a new screw plug seal and a new screw cap. Safety goggles must be worn when checking the level and changing the oil.
4. Other necessary tools for this procedure are supports for fixing the car in a raised position, a drain container with a volume of at least 4-5 liters, newspapers and clean rags.
Warning: Do not start the engine if the transmission is not filled with oil. Also, without ATF oil, towing a car is not allowed.
Warning: When carrying out work, it is necessary to carefully monitor the observance of cleanliness, since even slight contamination leads to malfunctions in the operation of the AT.
5. Jack up the vehicle and place it securely on jack stands.
Warning: The transmission oil temperature during level control must not exceed +30°C. This temperature is reached after a short period of engine operation. HUNDRED AUDI to control the temperature attach a diagnostic tool. Without the use of this instrument, the temperature can only be estimated approximately.
6. When checking the ATF oil, its temperature should not exceed +30°C.
7. The mode selector must be in position "R", air conditioning and heating must be turned off.
8. Substitute a container to collect the ATF oil. Remove the cork (arrow on accompanying illustration). The oil in the overflow pipe will drip.
9. Cut through the sealing ring at the screw plug with side cutters and replace it.
10. Start the engine and let it run until the oil temperature reaches +35°C.
11. If in the temperature range +35°C and +45°C oil flows out of the overflow pipe, the oil level is normal. In this case, screw in the plug with a new gasket and tighten to 15 Nm.
If oil does not flow out, add ATF.
Checking the condition of the oil
12. When checking the oil level in an automatic transmission, also check the condition of the oil. To make it easier to check the condition of the oil, compare the color, smell and viscosity of the oil with new oil.
If the transmission oil is milky, water has entered the oil. This can happen when the car is constantly used for short trips. If the color of the oil does not change after a long drive, the oil needs to be changed.
13. If the oil is dark brown and sticky, it may be because the transmission has overheated or the oil level in the transmission is too high. If an oil change fails, the vehicle must be taken to an AUDI specialist workshop.
If, when checking the level or changing the oil in the automatic transmission, the presence of dirt particles or metal chips is detected, it is necessary to diagnose or repair the automatic transmission at a specialized AUDI service station.
Refueling ATF
14. Hang the ATF tank of the required specification from the hood. The illustration shows a VAG 1924 reservoir and a VAG 1551 temperature scan tool.
15. Pry with a screwdriver and remove the safety cap of the plug (arrow on accompanying illustration). The cap is damaged and must be replaced with a new one. It protects the cork space.
16. Remove the plug from the filler neck.
17. Install the VAG 1924 oil refill tank and fill in ATF so that it comes out of the control hole (arrow on accompanying illustration).
18. Start the engine and, without moving, switch the mode selector.
19. Tighten plug -1- with a new gasket to 15 Nm.
20. Install the plug in the filler neck, put on a new safety cap -2- and fix it.
Warning: Be sure to replace the protective cap with a new one, it protects the cork.
21. Switch off the ignition and remove the diagnostic tool, if connected.
