Steering Damper — Checking, Removing and Installing (Audi 100 C3)

1. The steering damper is used on models without power steering. It is attached between the steering linkage hanger and the side of the engine compartment.

2. The steering shock absorber cannot be repaired. If the steering is sensitive to road shocks, remove the shock absorber and check its operation. The shock absorber is attached with a bolt at each end.

3. To check the shock absorber, move the rod manually in and out through its entire stroke. If the movement is not smooth and uniform resistance is not felt, install a new shock absorber.
