2. Remove the steering wheel, remove the steering column combination switch and instrument panel.
3. Where necessary, remove the trim and under-dash duct to gain access to the steering column/flange pipe connection.
4. Loosen the clamp securing the flange pipe to the steering gear pinion, move the flange pipe upward to separate it from the steering column.
5. Remove the shear bolt securing the ignition switch/steering column lock. Access is only possible through the instrument panel opening. Spread the ignition switch/steering column lock housing apart.
6. Loosen the nuts and remove the bolts securing the steering column clamps to the safety suspension.
7. Remove the column pipe, clamp and steering column upward.
8. Remove the column from the pipe, release the pipe from the clamp.
9. Check the condition of the column components, especially the lower column bushings and the holder bushings inside the column tube. The lower column bushings can be removed and installed by hand.
10. Assembly and installation are carried out in reverse order.
