Filling with fluid and bleeding the power steering hydraulic system.

The steering system must be filled and bled if individual components of the hydraulic system have been replaced and therefore the working fluid has been drained.

Clean the filter in the tank with gasoline for washing parts.

Fill with new working fluid up to the "max" mark (see the standard in the chapter "Lubrication works"). Do not use old liquid.

Raise the car from the front on both sides and with the engine off, turn the controls several times from lock to lock

Add liquid up to the "max" mark.

Start the engine and let it run for 2 minutes, with the wheels in a straight line position. Watch the fluid level.

As soon as the air bubbles in the tank stop rising, stop the engine and add fluid until the level is constantly at the "max" mark.

After a short trip, check the fluid level.

This chapter describes how to remove the steering wheel on vehicles without an airbag. A more complex procedure for removing the steering wheel on vehicles with an airbag is described at the end of this chapter.

With a sharp movement of your hands, remove the horn button in the middle of the steering wheel.

Put the steering wheel in the locked position

Loosen the steering column nut using a 24mm socket wrench.

Place the front wheels exactly in a straight position so that the steering wheel spokes are symmetrical.

Left: The high pressure pump (arrow) for the power steering is mounted in the 4-cylinder engine at the bottom left of the engine.

Right: After loosening the fastening (2), the poly V-belt cover (1) can be removed. The power steering pump (3) is now accessible.

Before removing the steering wheel, as shown in the illustration, loosen the 24 mm socket nut (arrow), in vehicles without an airbag, remove the horn button, as shown in the figure in the chapter "Signaling devices". In vehicles with an airbag, it must first be removed, which requires a fairly thorough job, a description of which you will find on the next page.

Remove the nut and washer, and remove the steering wheel with a sharp movement.

When installing the steering wheel, ensure that its spokes are positioned symmetrically.

Secure the steering wheel lock.

Tighten the steering column nut to 40 Nm.
