KP type 016

Until January 19, the Audi "100" cars were equipped with a five-speed fully synchronized gearbox type 016 with five forward gears and one reverse gear. The gearbox is combined with a differential and final drive. Gear shifting is performed by a lever on the body floor.

Gearbox type: 016 with index P or W.

Adjustment data

Axial clearance between the end face of the locking ring and the end face of the synchronizer gear ring, mm:
  • I, II, III and IV gears:
    • nominal: 1.00-1.70.
    • minimum acceptable (when worn out): 0,50;
  • 5th gear:
    • nominal 1.00-1.90;
    • minimum acceptable (when worn out)0,50;
  • reverse gear:
    • nominal 0.75-2.30;
    • minimum acceptable (when worn out): 0,20.

Axial clearance of the synchronizer of the 1st and 2nd gears, mm: 0.00-0.04. Thickness of the adjusting retaining rings, mm: 1.50-1.60 with an interval of every 0.05 mm.

Axial clearance of synchronizer of III and IV gears, mm: 0.00-0.04. Thickness of adjusting retaining rings, mm: 1.50-1.62 with an interval of every 0.06 mm.

Axial clearance of the sliding gear of the 1st gear, mm: 0.10-0.40.

Axial clearance of the sliding gear of the 4th gear, mm: 0.20-0.35. Thickness of the adjusting rings, mm: 1.65-1.75 with an interval of every 0.05 mm.

Axial clearance of the third gear pinion, mm - 0.00-0.04. Thickness of the adjusting retaining rings, mm - 1.65-1.75 with an interval of every 0.05 mm.

Axial clearance of the fourth gear pinion, mm: 0.00-0.02. Thickness of the adjusting retaining rings, mm: 2.24-2.40 with an interval of every 0.02 mm.

Clearance between gears of II and III gears, mm: 0.10-0.35.

Adjustment of the distance between the end face of the main gear drive pinion and the differential axle is achieved by setting the adjusting rings S3 (see diagram p. 91) between the tapered roller bearing on the pinion side and the gearbox housing and S4 between the tapered roller bearing on the 5th gear side and the rear cover of the gearbox housing.

Thickness of adjusting rings supplied as spare parts, mm:
  • S3: 0.20-1.15 with an interval of every 0.05 mm;
  • S4: 0.24-0.93 with an interval of every 0.03 mm.

In addition, S4 adjusting rings with a thickness of 1.17 and 1.41 mm are supplied as spare parts.

Preload of differential bearings and adjustment of lateral clearance in the engagement of main gear gears are achieved by setting adjusting rings S1 and S2. Thickness of adjusting rings supplied as spare parts, mm:
  • S1: 0,15; 0,20; 0,50; 0,80; 1,00; 1.50;
  • S2: 0.15, then from 0.20 to 1.00 at intervals of every 0.10 mm, then 1.20.

KP type 012

Since January 1988, the Audi "100" cars were not equipped with the four-speed gearbox type 014. The five-speed gearboxes types 013, 093 and 016 were replaced by the five-speed gearbox type 012. The work procedure, adjustment data and tightening torques of the main threaded connections for the gearbox type 012, with the exception of the control mechanism, are the same as for the gearbox type 016.
