The selector lever is brought into the passenger compartment through the body floor and has six fixed positions.

"P": parking
Set lever 8 to this position only when the car is stopped. The immobility of the car is ensured by mechanical blocking of the drive wheels. The engine can be started. To bring the lever to this position, press the locking button "B" located on the left side of the lever handle.
"R": reverse
To avoid serious damage, set the lever to this position only after the vehicle has come to a complete stop while moving forward. The parking brake must be applied and the engine running at low speed. The lever is moved to this position after pressing the lock button.
"N": neutral
In this position of the selector lever, the engine and drive wheels are disconnected. The engine can be started. Set the lever to "neutral" also during long stops on the road, for example, during traffic jams.
"D": movement
This position is most often used for driving. The car starts moving in 1st gear, the transition to 2nd, 3rd or back is done automatically depending on the engine load or speed. When the accelerator pedal is released, engine braking occurs.
"2": automatic engagement of 2nd gear
Starting off occurs in 1st gear, shifting to 2nd or returning to 1st is done automatically. 3rd gear does not work.
Set the lever to this position when driving on mountain roads, where you often have to shift to lower gears and resort to engine braking.
Driving at a speed exceeding 115 km/h is prohibited with the lever in this position. Move the selector lever from position "D" to position "2" after reducing the speed to 115 km/h or less.
"1": engages only 1st gear
To move the lever to this position, press the locking button on the lever handle. Use this position at speeds no higher than 65 km/h or when starting to move.
With the lever in this position, driving at a speed greater than 65 km/h is prohibited.
In this position of the lever, the car starts moving and continues moving only in 1st gear, 2nd and 3rd gears do not work.
Use this lever position to negotiate steep grades and provide maximum engine braking when needed.
Forced engagement of a lower gear ("kick-down")
By forcibly engaging a lower gear, maximum acceleration is achieved. Press the gas pedal all the way down with some extra force at the end of the stroke to activate the kick-down system. Now switching to a higher gear will occur with a delay, and to the next lower gear - in accordance with the vehicle speed or engine operating mode.
In this accelerator pedal position, maximum engine power is used in each gear.
