If the generator or voltage regulator does not work, you can still continue driving, since the battery can take over the role of the power source. During the day, its current reserve is enough for a long time, despite the fact that the electronic ignition control for the formation of a spark, as well as the electric fuel pump, requires a minimum voltage. In addition, the battery is often only charged to ⅔. Depending on the battery capacity, you can drive for at least another 5 hours. In winter, the general weakness of the battery is an aggravating circumstance. In addition, it is necessary to turn on the headlights earlier. Therefore, the motto should be to save current:
You should not interrupt the journey unnecessarily, because the starter requires especially much current. If possible, you should start the car by coasting.
Do not turn on the rear window heater, heater or radio.
It is more economical to use glass cleaner.
Drive at night without high beams and fog lights.
Additionally, disconnect the cables from the generator and insulate them separately so that the battery cannot be discharged through a faulty generator or voltage regulator.
