Driving with a faulty alternator (Audi A4 B6)

Movement can be continued despite the failure of the generator or voltage regulator. In this case, power is supplied from the battery. Depending on the state of charge and capacity of the battery, the battery power lasts for about five hours, if you do not turn on unnecessary consumers.

To prevent the battery from being discharged through a faulty alternator or regulator, remove the connector plug from the alternator.

Do not interrupt movement unless absolutely necessary, as the starter requires a very high current to operate. If possible, when resuming movement, start the engine by pushing or towing.

Do not turn on the rear window defroster, fan or radio.

Only use windscreen wipers and washers when absolutely necessary.

In the dark, if possible, do not turn on high beams and fog lights.
