The position in which the starter is mounted, and therefore the process of its removal and installation, differs depending on the engine. Dismantling and installation of the starter in a 4-cylinder engine is different from dismantling and installation in a 6-cylinder engine, but in both cases, all this is done in the lower part of the car. In addition, it should be borne in mind that in cars with a heater of independent action, it is necessary to unscrew the three screws securing the heater pipe on the soundproof cover. The cover itself is removed downward after loosening the fasteners at ten points.
1. Pay attention to the coding of the radio and navigation system, if necessary, interrogate the code. With the ignition off, disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
2. Dismantling: 8 cars with 4-cylinder engine unscrew the wire for terminal 8+. Then remove the plug connection for terminal 50.
Starter 4-cylinder engine: 1 - detachable connection for terminal 50, 2 - wire to terminal B+, 3 - holder for attaching the starter to the cylinder block, 4 - cable tie.
On vehicles with a 6-cylinder engine, you must first remove the right front wheel and alternator, as well as the heat shield for the drive shaft. Then unscrew the wire for terminal B+ and remove the plug connection for terminal 50.
Starter 6-cylinder engine: 1 - detachable connection for terminal 50, 2 - wire to terminal B+, 3 - heat shield. The arrows show the mounting screws.
3. In cars with the 4-cylinder engine turn out screws 1 and 2 and remove a starter down. In vehicles with a 6-cylinder engine, the heat shield 3 must first be removed from the traction relay. After that, the fixing screws can be unscrewed (arrows) and remove the starter.

4. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. During installation, the following tightening torques must be observed: Fastening the starter to the gearbox (4 cylinder engine): M10 - 45 Nm, M12 - 65 Nm, starter mount to engine (6 cylinder engine): 45 Nm, fastening the heat shield for the propeller shaft to the gearbox (6 cylinder engine): 23 Nm, terminal 8+ to starter - 16 Nm, battery terminal to battery post - 6 Nm.
When the battery is connected, equipment such as the radio, navigation system and power windows must be reactivated in accordance with the owner's manual.
