Caution! On vehicles with the Telematik system, before disconnecting the battery, activate the service mode of the Telematik control unit - Radio, telephone, navigation.
Removal
Disconnect the battery ground cable with the ignition off. Remove the soundproofing screen. Wash the hood from the outside and wipe it with chamois leather. Unlock the service cover from the inside. Unlock the hood and pull it forward a little. Remove the hood. Unscrew the water collector "1" from the ABS hydraulic module holder. Put the water collector with the attached water drain hose "2" aside
Remove the air conditioning system receiving tank by unscrewing the "C" bolts; the refrigerant lines remain screwed on. Other positions are not taken into account.
Remove cover "3" from the lock washer. Remove lock washer "2" on the guide lever. Unlock the gear selection and engagement cable lock as follows: pull the locking mechanism on the gear engagement cable in the direction of arrow A forward until it stops. Then turn the sliding sleeve in the direction of arrow 3 until it stops and lock the sleeve. Unscrew nut "4" and remove linkage "1".
Unscrew the "arrow" nut. Remove the ground cable on the double bolt.
Unscrew the upper nut "arrow" of the starter cover.
Unscrew nuts "2" and "4". Move the starter cover "3" to the side. Pos. 1 - do not take into account.
Remove the holder "2" of the plug connection from the bolt "1". Unscrew the double bolt.
Remove the starter cover upwards. Disconnect the connector of terminal 50 "pos. 1" on the traction relay. Unscrew the nut "2", while holding the wires to avoid damaging the traction relay. Remove the B+ wire. Remove the locking element "3". Unscrew the upper double bolt of the starter. Remove the starter upwards.
Installation
Installation is in reverse order, taking into account the following: perform basic gear shift adjustment. Connect the battery. Top up the coolant and bleed the air from the cooling circuit.
Tightening torques:
- Starter to gearbox: 65 Nm
- Starter cover to gearbox mount: 18 Nm
- CP: 8 Nm
- Holder to starter: 22 Nm Terminal B+ to starter: 16 Nm
- Ground cable to starter: 22 Nm
- Reception capacity to fastening: 8 Nm
- Water collector to ABS hydraulic module: 6 Nm
