Withdrawal
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery (see chapter 3).
2. Apply the handbrake, then jack up the front of the vehicle and place it on axle stands.
3. Remove the lower engine protection plate.
4. Note the location of the two wires on the starter. Disconnect the wire from the traction relay, then unscrew the nut and disconnect the negative wire from the battery to the main terminal (see illustration).
5. Remove the bolt securing the starter bracket to the cylinder block, then unscrew the nuts, and remove the bracket from the front of the starter. Note that one of the nuts secures the cable holder bracket.
6. Turn off mounting bolts, and remove a starter down from the engine and transmission. Please note that on some engines the lower mounting bolt cannot be completely unscrewed from the transmission case, as there is not enough space between the body and the bottom (see illustrations).
Installation
7. Install in reverse order, tighten the mounting bolts with the tightening torque specified specifications.
