Removal
1. On models without air conditioning or a pollen filter, the battery is located in the left rear of the engine compartment under a black plastic cover. On models with air conditioning and/or a pollen filter, it is located under the rear seat cushion, however, on these models there is a separate positive cable connection under a plastic cover in the engine compartment. The separate positive cable connection cannot be used to disconnect the battery when working on the electrical system; to do this, you must disconnect the negative battery cable. In some countries, there is an auxiliary battery for the heater in the luggage compartment, but it is not described in this manual.
2. To remove the battery, first remove the plastic cover or rear seat cushion (depending on location) as described in Section 11.
3. Loosen the clamp bolt and disconnect the negative cable from the battery terminal.
4. Disconnect the positive wire in the same way (see illustration).
5. At the base of the battery, unscrew the bolt and remove the clamp.
6. Lift the battery out of the engine compartment.
7. If necessary, loosen the nuts/bolts and remove the battery tray.
Installation
8. Perform installation in reverse order.
