The generator in a car can be compared to a dynamo on a bicycle: the faster it rotates, the higher the voltage and, therefore, the current generated. Automobile power consumers would not be able to withstand such fluctuations for a long time, and therefore a special regulator must limit the generator voltage and prevent the battery from overcharging. This regulator, the electronic voltage regulator, is mounted directly on the generator.
