While a poly V-belt should, strictly speaking, last the entire life of the vehicle, a V-belt can easily break.

If the belt is broken, one of three effects will occur:

The red charging indicator flashes during the ride.

The steering suddenly becomes heavy.

The air conditioner is not working.

The engine overheats because the water pump does not work. This is the most dangerous effect.
