- 1 - the passage of the poly V-belt in a six-cylinder engine without air conditioning.
- 2 - this is how the poly V-belt in a six-cylinder engine with air conditioning covers various belt pulleys.
The replacement of the V-belt of a four-cylinder engine after 120,000 km of mileage should be taken seriously, because if the water pump belt is torn, the engine overheats (coolant pump without drive). This is guaranteed to be noticed too late, since the defect is only indicated by the coolant control light or the instrument. A driver with a six-cylinder engine does not have to worry about this kind of defect: its water pump is directly driven by the engine's toothed belt.
Tip: The consequences of an overheated engine are expensive: a faulty cylinder head gasket or, in severe cases, a blown cylinder head will result in expensive repairs. So when the coolant light comes on, stop immediately and check if the V-belt on the water pump and servo pump pulleys is in order. If not, have the car towed!
