TO No.21
The front axle joints connecting the wishbones and shock absorber struts are not subject to maintenance. The steel ball joints of the axle joints are inserted into plastic cups filled with grease. Dust-proof rubber boots provide protection from moisture and dirt. Penetrating dirt acts like sand in the joint; penetrating moisture promotes the formation of rust and the sticking of the joint.
The same thing happens in the rear axle joints of all-wheel drive models.
Front axle: Turn the steering wheel completely in one direction.
Check the axle joint covers on the right and left for damage.
A damaged dust cap cannot be replaced separately; it is necessary to replace the entire joint, including the transverse suspension arm. Which is actually quite reasonable, since dirt and water have probably already gotten into the joint through the crack.
Thus, if there are cracks, the joint is considered faulty even before play or creaking become noticeable.
Rear axle in a four-wheel drive vehicle: remove the rear wheel, check the joint housing as described above.
Do the same on the other side of the engine.
Replace the hinge.
