Raise the front of the car and support it on stands with the wheels hanging in the air.

Use a portable lamp to illuminate the mudguards of the upper joints of the front suspension, as well as the mudguard of the steering rod end 1, and check their condition (Fig. 2–23).

Any damage to these boots will result in lubricant leaks, water and dirt ingress, and, as a result, rapid wear of the ball joints or steering gear. For safety reasons, replace the corresponding defective joint with the mudguard at a service station.
