TO No.19
The steering gear is located at the back bottom of the engine compartment, the toothed rack of which is protected by a double rubber cuff. It should be checked regularly. A cracked corrugated cover opens access to the inside of the steering gear for moisture and dust, and this mixture, combined with the filler lubricant, forms a kind of grinding paste, which greatly affects the toothed rack guide and the steering gear pinions.
Use your hands to stretch the corrugated cover or turn the steering wheel to the right and left in order to see cracks or tears.
Are both clamps on the ends of the rubber cuff tightly fitted?
A defective cuff must be replaced immediately.
This replacement is done in a workshop, as it requires removing the steering mechanism.
