MOT No. 19
In the engine compartment at the rear there is a steering mechanism, the gear rack of which is protected by a double rubber cuff. It must be checked regularly. A cracked bellow opens the inside of the steering gear to moisture and dust, and this mixture, combined with the filler lubricant, forms a kind of grinding paste, which greatly affects the rack guide and steering gears.
Use your hands to stretch the bellows or turn the steering wheel left and right to look for cracks or tears.
Are both clamps on the ends of the rubber cuff tight?
A defective cuff must be replaced immediately.
This replacement is made in the workshop, because. You will need to remove the steering gear to do this.
