Using the VW10 204 tool, press new valve stem seals onto the valve guides, then place the protective caps on the valve stems.
Install the springs and spring retainers. Install the crackers using a valve spring compressor.
Insert the valve lifters into the head holes, having previously lubricated them with engine oil to facilitate installation. Pay special attention to the fact that the lifters are returned to their previous position.
Install the adjusting washers.
Lubricate the bearing journals and cams of the camshaft with engine oil and place it and the cylinder head supports so that the cams of the first cylinder are directed upward.
Install bearing caps No.2 and 4 alternately crosswise, screw the nuts onto the mounting studs, but do not tighten the nuts completely.
Cylinder head bolt tightening sequence (arabic numerals 1 to 12) and nuts of studs of fastening of caps of bearings of the camshaft (roman numerals, first I through IV, then V through VIII)
Install bearing caps No.1 and 3 and pre-tighten the mounting nuts.
Finally tighten the bearing cap nuts to the specified torque.
Press in a new camshaft oil seal using tool 10 203.

Install the camshaft timing pulley and tighten its mounting bolt to the specified torque.
