Warning. Before proceeding with the removal of structural body parts that cannot be straightened, it is necessary to edit the deformed section of the body as a whole to restore the original linear dimensions of the control points and make sure that its geometric dimensions according to the control points correspond to the table data.
Complete or partial removal of damaged parts
Complete removal of welded body parts is carried out by welding points, partial removal by cutting out the deformed area. If a new item (part of the detail) will be welded «overlap», then it is necessary to provide an allowance of about 2 cm.
Removing resistance welding points
Removal of contact welding points when removing damaged or deformed parts, the original shape of which cannot be restored by straightening directly on the car, is carried out using a pneumatic chisel, or by drilling. Drilling of welding points is carried out with special cutters or drills with a centering ledge, while the drill is sharpened so that the metal is cut from the periphery to the center.
Installing new parts
Warning. When carrying out any, even the smallest welding work on an undisassembled car, it is necessary to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery from the ground and remove electronic devices.
Body parts that are most susceptible to corrosion have a zinc protective coating applied galvanically. During welding, toxic zinc oxide is released, which requires the use of special respirators.
Welding of parts should be carried out mainly by contact method, or by an electric arc in a shielding gas environment (e.g. carbon dioxide). Gas welding is not recommended.
