On models equipped with a hydraulically controlled clutch, the master cylinder is located inside the vehicle, near the clutch and brake pedals. Fluid is supplied to the system from the master cylinder reservoir.
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Remove the shelf to gain access to the master cylinder.
3. Cover the floor under the pedals to protect it from any fluid that may spill from the hydraulic lines.
4. Carefully move the fluid supply hose away from the outlet on the cylinder and quickly plug the hose with an old bolt or rod of suitable diameter.
5. Loosen the hydraulic pipe coupling at the base of the cylinder and carefully loosen the pipes.
6. Remove the retaining ring and the pin with a head and a hole for a cotter pin securing the master cylinder pushrod to the clutch pedal.
7. Unscrew the two mounting bolts and remove the cylinder from the vehicle.
8. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Bleed the clutch hydraulic system as described in Chapter 11, check the clutch adjustment as described in Chapter 2.
