Attention: If the fuel system does not automatically bleed or there is no hand pump, proceed as follows to fill the high pressure fuel pump with diesel fuel; fill the fuel tank with diesel fuel; tow a car.
The above measures ensure that the system is quickly vented.
Attention. In order to check at starting speed whether fuel is supplied to the injectors, unscrew the union nuts on the two injectors and start the engine without preliminary heating until the fuel begins to come out of the union nuts. Tighten the union nuts and start the engine according to the instructions.
Driving in winter
In a diesel engine, fuel additives cannot be added; this must be done in winter. With a decrease in the outside temperature, the fluidity of diesel fuel decreases due to the deposition of paraffin. Diesel fuel becomes thick. For this reason, companies producing mineral oils offer fuel additives for the winter period, which improve its fluidity and guarantee normal vehicle operation down to -15°C. It is not always possible to achieve perfect engine operation with these additives. Therefore, even if the tank contains "summer diesel fuel", gasoline should be added to it. Add additives should be before the start of deposition of paraffin. Otherwise, the filter and fuel hoses must be freed from thick diesel fuel.
Since the addition of gasoline (normal gasoline) reduces engine power, then only the amount really needed should be added (see table).
Attention. Normal gasoline should be added to diesel fuel, do not use gasoline "Super". Due to its high flammability, gasoline should be added to the fuel tank. And first you should fill in gasoline, and then diesel fuel.
Attention: By adding gasoline, engine power is reduced.
If the engine is stopped in extreme cold due to heavy thickening of the diesel fuel, it will be very difficult to start it again. There are the following possibilities for starting the engine in such a case:
- Remove the fuel filter and heat it in a water bath until the diesel fuel becomes liquid again.
- Remove the fuel filter and replace it with a new one.
- Place or tow the vehicle into the garage and heat the garage.
- Pour hot water over the fuel injection system.
Attention. Never heat the fuel injection system or the fuel tank with a blowtorch or the like. Explosion hazard!
Repair of the fuel injection system
When repairing the fuel injection system, it is necessary to observe thorough cleanliness and strictly observe the following rules:
Connected and adjacent parts must be thoroughly cleaned before loosening.
Lay the removed parts on a clean surface and cover, for this use paper or foil. Do not use rags that leave fibers!
Exposed hoses, pipes, etc. carefully protect or close with stoppers, if they do not need to be repaired immediately.
Install only clean parts.
Spare parts should not be taken out of the packaging until immediately before installation.
Do not use parts that have been left unpackaged (e.g. in a toolbox).
With an open system:
- Use compressed air.
- Do not move the car.
In addition, care must be taken to ensure that diesel fuel does not get on the coolant hoses. Otherwise, the hoses must be cleaned. Damaged hoses (reacted) should be replaced.
