The original form of this injection system, K-Jetronic, worked purely mechanically on the principle «a lot of intake air - a lot of fuel». And such simple devices as the regulator of enrichment of the combustible mixture during engine warm-up and the starting valve provided additional adaptability to difficult operating conditions. Combine lambda regulation (with adjustable catalytic converter) with the classic K-Jetronic system, it was impossible without additional devices.
This circumstance was the main reason for the further development of KE-Jetronic. The main elements of the previous system remained and were supplemented by an electronic control unit and the so-called pressure regulator - an additional regulatory body with an electromagnetic drive that additionally affects fuel metering. The pressure regulator is active mainly during engine warm-up, but it also has a central function in the regulation of the fuel mixture via lambda control (adjustable catalytic converter).
