The 4-cylinder engine with an output of 85 kW (AAD) developed in June 1992 is equipped with the KE-Motronic injection system, which in its control unit controls the ignition system in addition to the mixture preparation function. This system therefore represents a comprehensive engine management system.
The 5-cylinder engine is equipped with a KE-Jetronic injection system, version lll. Here we are to some extent dealing with the first version of the Motronic system, since injection and ignition are controlled by different control units. However, data is exchanged between both control units - the fully electronic ignition system "VEZ" (discussed in the chapter "Ignition system") and the injection system. In addition, the same sensors often serve as sources of information for the ignition and injection systems.
Both systems (KE-Motronic and KE-Jetronic, lll versions) have a fault memory that records faults while driving. The fault memory can be interrogated to determine the cause of the fault.
