MOT No. 11
Every 15,000 km or at least once a year, we recommend cleaning the paper filter element to remove larger dirt particles. When driving on very dusty roads, this interval may be shortened.
In engines with a KE-111-Jetronic or KE-Motronic injection system, the intake cap above the fuel mixture adjuster must be removed to remove the air filter element (2). Remove four mounting brackets (arrows) around the air filter housing, top of the air filter housing (1) press a little to the side, remove the replaceable element.
In other engine versions, replacing the air filter element (2) goes much easier. Here, after opening the clamping brackets, it will only be necessary to separate the upper part of the filter housing (1) from the bottom (3).
Shown here are the components of the intake air preheater on 85 kW engines. Shown here is the bottom of the air filter with the top removed in a 6-cylinder vehicle. The numbers indicate:
1 - air intake sleeve;
2 - a sleeve of heated air;
3 - thermostat for the heated air control valve.
Remove the paper filter element as described above.
Tap the filter on a hard surface to loosen large dirt particles.
If fine dust is also to be removed, blow out the sides of the slats with compressed air.
Never direct compressed air directly onto the filter paper! Otherwise, dust particles will clog tightly into the pores of the filter.
Wipe the filter housing with a clean cloth.
Install the filter in place.
