The guide helps to identify vehicle faults and discusses methods for eliminating them.
Car repair is based on replacing faulty parts and components with new ones.
The need to replace parts is determined by the tables of permissible gaps and wear. However, it should be borne in mind that the data on the maximum wear of parts are approximate values and should not be considered as the only criterion, without taking into account the behavior of the part in the unit or assembly.
The Audi 100 belongs to the middle class and has an all-metal monocoque body of the sedan or station wagon type.
The cars are equipped with a whole range of four- and five-cylinder petrol engines, from a 1.8-litre engine with 100 hp to a 2.23-litre turbocharged engine with 200 hp.
In addition to petrol engines, there is a family of diesel engines for the Audi 100.
The car is equipped with four- and five-speed gearboxes or a three-speed automatic.
The basic model of the car has a front-wheel drive layout, but there is also a modification with all-wheel drive.
Steering is rack and pinion type, there are modifications with power steering.
The braking system is dual-circuit with hydraulic drive, the front brakes are disc, the rear brakes can be drum or disc (depending on engine power). Depending on the configuration, the car may be equipped with ABS (anti-lock braking system). All modifications have a booster installed in the brake system.
The car is equipped with a trauma-safe steering column, some cars (depending on the configuration) equipped with an inflatable airbag for the driver.
The car has an exceptional body in terms of aerodynamics (the sedan has a Cx coefficient of 0.3, the station wagon has a Cx coefficient of 0.34). This is achieved thanks to the smooth contours of the body, without sharp transitions, a large slope of the windshield and rear windows, as well as the original design of the side windows. The side window glass is installed on the door frames from the outside, flush with the body pillars. This design was used for the first time in the world on a production car.
Much attention was paid to corrosion resistance when developing the body. The parts most susceptible to corrosion are made of zinc-metal; non-load bearing parts are made of plastic.
