Model engines "WH", "WC", "KR", "KU", "RT"

The ignition system is contactless and includes a distributor sensor with a built-in electronic control pulse sensor, a high-energy ignition coil and a switch.

Ignition distributor sensor

Bosch brand ignition distributor sensor, shielded, four-spark, with vacuum and centrifugal ignition timing regulators, with high-voltage current distributor with axial terminals, with built-in microelectronic sensor (generator) control pulses with a change in the phase angle of the resulting voltage. It is driven by a helical gear of the intermediate shaft. The direction of rotation is left (from the camshaft drive side). The voltage value generated by the generator sensor is within the range of 0-2 V. Resistance of the distributor rotor (marked "R1"), Ohm: 1000.

Ignition distributor sensor numbers according to the Bosch catalogue:
  • engine "WC": 0 237 031 008;
  • engine "WH": 0 237 031 006;
  • Engine "RT": 0 237 030 025 or 0 237 030 026.

Ignition advance angle to TDC with the vacuum advance regulator hose connected at idle speed: 18°±1°.

Characteristics of automatic ignition advance of the centrifugal regulator of the ignition sensor-distributor of the "RT" engine

Ignition advance angle, deg, by crankshaft/crankshaft speed, rpm:
  • start/110-1300;
  • 5-9/1600;
  • 11-15/2600-3800;
  • 18-22/5600.

Automatic ignition advance characteristic of the vacuum regulator of the ignition distributor sensor of the "RT" engine

Ignition advance angle, deg, by crankshaft/vacuum in intake manifold, mm Hg:

  • start/43-90;
  • 12-14/285-315.

Note: When using unleaded petrol with an octane rating of 95, it is recommended to reduce the initial ignition advance angle before TDC to 10°±1°.

Characteristics of automatic ignition advance of the regulators of the sensors-distributors of…

Characteristics of automatic ignition advance of the regulators of the sensors-distributors of five-cylinder engines. A — characteristic of the centrifugal regulator; B - characteristic of the vacuum regulator when advancing ignition; B — vacuum regulator characteristic with ignition delay. When checking on the engine, add the value of the initial ignition moment

Switch

The switch converts the control pulses of the generator sensor into current pulses in the primary winding of the ignition coil. It is installed in the car's interior, under the left lower trim next to the engine hood lock drive handle and has a seven-plug connector (plug No.7 is a backup). 1.5 seconds after the ignition distributor sensor shaft stops, a special switch circuit smoothly breaks the ignition coil power supply circuit, preventing sparking. This prevents excessive heating of the ignition coil with a low resistance value of the primary winding.

Switch brand and manufacturer's catalog number: Telelunken 211 905 351 D; Bosch 0 227 100 103, 0 227 100 104 or 0 227 100 138.

Spark plugs

Spark plugs

Since the 1986 model year on vehicles with engines "WH", "WC". "KR", "KU" candles were installed with an extended service life. which are replaced after 30,000 km, and not after 15,000 km of mileage, as before.

Brand and type of spark plugs: Bosch W6DTC, Beru 14.6DTU; Champion N7BYC.

The gap between the electrodes, mm 0.8±0.1.

Ignition coil

Brand and catalog number: Bosch 0 221 122 022, 0 221 122 023 or 0 221 122 350.

Resistance of secondary winding at 20°C, kOhm: 2.4-3.5.

High voltage wires

High voltage wires are equipped with interference suppressing tips.

Resistance of high voltage wires, kOhm:
  • central wire: 22.0±0.8;
  • other wires - 6.0±1.4.

Resistance of noise suppression tips, kOhm:
  • from the spark plug side: 1.0±0.4;
  • from the ignition distributor sensor side: 5.0±1.0.

Engine model "NF"

The ignition system of the "NF" engine is a fully electronic VEZ type from Bosch. It consists of an ignition distributor, a crankshaft angular position sensor, spark plugs, an ignition coil and an electronic control unit. The system does not require any adjustments during operation.

Initial ignition advance angle at idle speed before TDC: 15°±1°.
