The manual transmission can be a 4-speed, or one of three 5-speed options, according to the model.
The gearbox is bolted to the rear of the engine in the usual way; due to the front wheel drive, the rotation is transmitted to the differential unit located on the front side of the gearbox and through the drive shafts to the front wheels. All forward gears are synchronized, reverse gear is obtained by including an additional intermediate gear with a synchronizer sleeve on the 1st/2nd gear shaft and a spur gear on the input shaft.
Shifting is done by a floor-mounted lever, single rod and linkage attached to the shift rod, which is mounted on the rear of the gearbox. The shift rod includes a pin that includes other rods in the bearing carrier.
When it comes to repairing a transmission, particular attention must be paid to costs, it is often more cost effective to replace it with a used transmission than to install new parts on an existing transmission. Repair of the differential is not affected, as this requires special equipment that is not available to a home mechanic.
