Removal
1. Remove the caps and unscrew the nuts securing the top engine cover, then remove the cover.
2. Remove the air cleaner assembly as described in Chapter 2.
3. Where applicable, remove the nuts and bolts, and remove the EGR valve assembly and pipes from the intake and exhaust manifolds. Disconnect the vacuum tube, and remove the gaskets.
4. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the air duct from the intake manifold.
5. Loosen the clamps and disconnect the vacuum hoses (see illustration).

6. On some engines, you will need to remove the bolts and thermal insulation from the front of the cylinder head (see illustration).

7. Using a hex key, gradually loosen the bolts securing the intake manifold to the cylinder head, then separate the manifold and remove the gasket (see illustrations).




8. Clean the surfaces under the manifold and cylinder head gaskets.
Installation
9. Install in reverse order, but install a new gasket and tighten the bolts to the specified tightening torque Specifications.
