Note: Observe the precautions given in Chapter 1.
Idle frequency
1. Before performing this procedure, the engine must be warmed up to normal temperature, and all consumers of electrical energy must be turned off. Apply the handbrake and place the shift lever in neutral. Check that the cold start handle is pushed back to its original position.
2. Start the engine and let it idle.
3. Using a diesel tachometer, check the idle speed and compare it with the data in Specifications.
4. If adjustment is required, loosen the locknut and turn the idle speed screw, then re-tighten the locknut.
5. Turn off the engine.
Maximum engine speed
6. Start the engine and, after applying the handbrake and setting the gearshift lever to neutral, have an assistant fully depress the gas pedal.
7. Using a diesel tachometer, check the maximum engine speed and compare it with the data in Specifications.
Warning: Do not let the engine run at maximum speed for more than two or three seconds.
8. If necessary, adjust the maximum engine speed by loosening the jam nut and turning the adjusting screw.
9. Finally, tighten the locknut.
