Don't forget about safety precautions when working with ignition.
Warm up the engine and turn it off.
Connect the tachometer.
Connect the stroboscope and connect its control wire to the high-voltage wire of the first cylinder (right in the direction of travel). Start the engine and let it idle.
If necessary, adjust the idle speed.
Point the strobe light at the edge of the inspection hole on the gearbox housing (on the left in the engine compartment).
When the ignition is set correctly, the notch (2) on the flywheel in the beam of the stroboscope lamp should be exactly under the mark - arrow (1) in the inspection hole of the clutch housing.
If the adjustment is incorrect, loosen the clamp bolt at the bottom of the distributor or both bolts on the cylinder head.
Turn the distributor slightly to the right or left around its axis until the notch (mark) on the flywheel coincides with the mark - arrow.
If the engine speed changes during the adjustment process, it needs to be readjusted (it is possible).

Finally, tighten the bolt and check the ignition timing again.
Ignition timing adjustment values
The table contains adjustment and control values. A quick check results in a large spread of control values. However, it is necessary to adjust as precisely as possible.
Attention: If the stroboscope has a control wire that connects to the high-voltage wire of the first cylinder, then you need to pay attention to the quality of the contact. If the contact between the high-voltage wire and the spark plug is weak, the control unit or switch may be damaged.
