Note: A stroboscope is required to make the adjustments described in this chapter.
1. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
2. Stop the engine, connect the stroboscope according to the manufacturer's instructions.
3. Using the self-monitoring system, check that the knock sensor is in good condition.
4. Turn off the air conditioner (where used),
5. On the PS engine, verify that the throttle idle switch is on.
6. On the NG engine, remove the fuse box cover and insert the fuse into the fuel pump relay contacts.
7. Start the engine, set the idle speed.
8. On the NG engine, insert the fuse into the fuel pump relay contacts. Wait four seconds before checking the ignition timing.
9. Aim a strobe light at the ignition timing inspection hole on the left side of the clutch cover. If the ignition timing is correct, a notch on the flywheel will appear at the bottom edge of the hole.
10. If adjustment is necessary, remove the plug from the distributor clamping bolt, loosen the bolt and rotate the distributor as required. Tighten the bolt after adjustment and install the cover.
11. Stop the engine and remove the stroboscope. Remove the fuse from the fuel pump relay contacts.
