Note: To perform the procedure described in this Chapter, a stroboscope is required.
1. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
2. Stop the engine and connect the instrument according to the manufacturer's instructions.
3. On DZ, PM and JN engines, disconnect the vacuum hose from the distributor and plug it. On all other engines, leave the hose connected.
4. Start the engine at idle speed, then point the strobe into the hole on the left side of the clutch cover (photo). If the ignition timing is correct, a notch on the flywheel will appear at the bottom edge of the hole.
5. If adjustment is necessary, remove the plug from the distributor clamping bolt, loosen the bolt and rotate the distributor as required. Tighten the bolt after adjustment and install the plug.
6. Reconnect the vacuum hose.
7. Stop the engine and remove the stroboscope.
