The Motronic ignition system is used on the 3A engine and operates in the same way as the FEI system described in Chapter 7.
The ignition control unit and the direct fuel injection control unit are combined into a separate control unit. Unlike some Motronic systems, this system uses a valve with a Hall sensor.
The system uses signals from the following components to control ignition timing for optimum engine performance: knock sensor, hall sensor, temperature sensor, throttle switches, and air flow meter.
