The Motronic ignition system is used on the 3A engine and operates in the same way as the FEI system described in Chapter 7.
The ignition control unit and the direct fuel injection control unit are combined into a separate control unit. Unlike some Motronic systems, this system uses a distributor with a Hall sensor.
To control the ignition timing for optimum engine performance, the system uses signals from the following components: knock sensor, Hall sensor, temperature sensor, throttle switches and air flow meter.
