Fuel accumulator (Audi 100 C4)
On models with a 5-cylinder engine and the KE-111-Jetronic injection system, as well as with a 4-cylinder engine and the KE-Motronic injection system (with an output of 85 kW and manufactured up to 6/92 under the designation "AAD"), a fuel accumulator is located at the bottom of the protective flange of the fuel tank. The spring tension here maintains the fuel pressure in the line leading to the engine when the engine and fuel pump are switched off. The purpose of all this is to ensure that the fuel is immediately supplied at the required pressure when the engine is restarted. In addition, the fuel accumulator balances the pressure difference on the pump side.
