TO #4
- Inspect the engine. Lightly oiled areas are not a cause for concern, all engines "sweat" a small amount of lubricant from time to time.
- However, you should find out the reason for the occurrence of oil stains under a parked car and if there is significant oil dirt on the engine body.
- Clean the engine with an engine cleaner or a steam cleaner.
- After the test drive (several kilometers) check where the oil is coming from.
Possible leak locations
We have compiled a short list of places where oil may leak from an Audi engine:
- Crankshaft, camshaft and intermediate shaft seals (4-cylinder engine). These areas are covered by a timing belt cover.
- Cylinder head cover sealing gaskets.
- Cylinder head gasket, oil filter.
- Ignition distributor sealing gasket (models with 4- and 5-cylinder engines).
- Rear Crankshaft Seal Gasket (oil flows along the dividing arc between the engine and the gearbox housing).
- Oil filter mounting gasket (models with 4-cylinder engines).
- Oil pan sealing gasket.
Note: Engine cleaning can be done in so-called cleaning parks, where a self-service steam jet device can be used. In case of heavy contamination, it is recommended to spray the engine with a cleaning agent before washing and leave it to act for some time. Be sure to bring work clothes with you.
