Even a serviceable engine throws 50-70 liters of exhaust gases per minute through the piston rings into the crankcase. This pressure must escape from the engine crankcase so as not to overload the gaskets. This is done through crankcase ventilation. Poisonous gases from the interior of the engine are returned once more to the intake ducts or to the air filter housing to protect the environment. From there, they are once again sucked in by the engine for complete combustion.
