Visual inspection of engine condition (Audi 80 B4)

1. Inspect the engine. A small amount of leaking oil is not a cause for concern. However, if a puddle forms under a parked car, you should find out where the leak is and determine the cause.

2. Clean the engine with an appropriate cleaning agent and wash with a steam generator.

3. Perform a test drive and determine where the oil leak is located.

The most likely places for oil leaks are:

• crankshaft, camshaft and intermediate shaft seals (4-cylinder engines). These areas are covered by a toothed belt protective cover
• cylinder head cover gasket
• cylinder head gasket
• distributor clamp gasket (4- and 5-cylinder engines).
• engine oil pressure sensors
• oil filter gasket
• filter mounting gasket
• oil pan cover gasket
• crankshaft oil seal at the rear end (engine-gearbox joint
• oil radiator (diesel engines)
• sealing ring of the manual fuel pump lever on the high-pressure fuel pump (tD engines only).
