Warning: The engine does not require warming up when the vehicle is parked. Warming up the engine occurs when driving in low gears. After starting, you can start driving immediately. During warming up, do not allow the engine to operate at high speed.

Warning: At low ambient temperatures, it is recommended to depress the clutch pedal when starting the engine so that the starter can more easily turn the engine crankshaft when the oil thickens.

Warning: It is not recommended to tow vehicles with catalytic converters for the purpose of starting the engine, as this will expose the converter to pure gasoline, which may ignite after starting the engine and cause damage to the converter.

Warning: When starting a diesel engine, it is prohibited to turn on any electrical consumers while the glow plugs are warming up.

Carburetor engine

1. Turn on the ignition.

2. Turn on the starter without pressing the accelerator pedal.

3. If the engine does not start within 10 seconds, stop starting. The engine can be started again after about 30 seconds.

4. If the engine does not start after three attempts, it is necessary to find and fix the problem.

5. At ambient temperatures below 0°C, you can start moving within a few seconds after starting the engine.

6. When starting a hot engine, press the accelerator pedal at the moment of starting. After the engine starts, release the accelerator pedal.

Engine with fuel injection system

1. Turn on the ignition.

2. Turn on the starter without pressing the accelerator pedal.

3. If the engine does not start within 10 seconds, stop starting. The engine can be started again after about 30 seconds.

4. If the engine does not start after three attempts, it is necessary to find and fix the malfunction. Most likely, the cause is a burnt-out fuel pump fuse or a failure of the fuel pump itself.

5. After starting a hot engine and its operation is unstable, lightly press the accelerator pedal.

6. When starting the engine of the MS model, you need to lightly press the accelerator pedal during starting.

Diesel engine

1. Turn on the ignition. This supplies power to the glow plugs and lights the indicator lamp on the instrument panel. The indicator lamp goes out as soon as the glow plugs warm up to operating temperature. Only then can you turn on the starter.

2. Turn on the starter without pressing the accelerator pedal. For turbocharged engines, at ambient temperatures below 0°C, you need to lightly press the accelerator pedal when starting.

3. Crank the engine with the starter until it starts to run smoothly (but not more than 20 sec).

4. If a cold engine does not start, the glow plugs must be warmed up again before restarting (the control lamp is on). If the spark plugs are warmed up (the control lamp does not light), the engine can be started immediately.

5. If significant vibration is felt when starting a cold engine, turn handle 16 (see Fig. Instrument cluster for models produced before January 1988.) speed controller to achieve smooth engine operation.
