General recommendations
Be careful when starting the engine in enclosed spaces - risk of carbon monoxide poisoning!
Before starting the engine, place the shift lever in neutral and apply the parking brake. Squeeze the clutch - the starter should only turn the engine. As soon as the engine starts - release the key to its original position, the starter should turn off.
Starting a cold engine may be accompanied by increased noise for a short time due to insufficient primary oil pressure in the hydraulic system. This is normal, no need to worry.
Do not warm up the engine in the parking lot. Leave immediately! Until the engine warms up - do not allow high speeds, avoid driving at full throttle.
With a hot catalyst, towing the car for a long distance is not allowed. Unburned fuel can get into the catalytic converter, ignite there and damage it.
Gasoline engines
Engines of this type are equipped with an injection device, which, depending on the mode of operation, the external air temperature, automatically calculates and delivers optimally adjusted portions of the fuel-air mixture.
To start the engine, lightly depress the accelerator pedal and engage the starter. Do not release the pedal while starting.
If the engine does not start within 10 seconds, interrupt the start and repeat again after half a minute.
If the engine still does not start this time, the electric fuel pump fuse may have blown.
Diesel engines
Preheat
The engine is equipped with a preheater. The time required to reach the operating temperature of the glow is indicated by a control lamp.
Accelerator / increase in idle speed when starting a cold engine
Starting a cold engine is facilitated by a special accelerator device built into the high pressure fuel pump.
To turn it on, pull the handle to the right of the steering column towards you. This rod can also be used to regulate idle speed, thereby reducing engine vibration during start-up.
Starting a cold engine
Regardless of the air temperature, fully pull the accelerator rod towards you.
Turn the key in the ignition switch to position 2; the pre-glow control lamp should light up. As soon as the operating temperature of the glow is reached, it will turn off.
To avoid intense battery discharge when the preheater is switched on, disconnect all large electrical consumers from the mains.
As soon as the control lamp goes out, start the engine. When starting - do not add gas.
If the engine start is accompanied by uneven ignition seizures, help it with a starter, but not more than 30 seconds.
If the engine does not start, wait half a minute and turn on the pre-heater again and start again.
If it doesn't start this time, the pre-heater fuse may have blown.
As soon as the engine warms up to operating temperature, return the thrust of the idle speed accelerator to its original position.
In case of excessive vibration of the engine with the same thrust, adjust the appropriate idle speed and eliminate it.
Starting a warm engine
If the glow plug temperature warning light does not come on, the warm engine can be started. At the same time, do not pull the accelerator rod, do not add gas.
Note for all engines
After a long load of the engine - do not immediately turn it off. Let it run for about 2 minutes at idle. This prevents local accumulation of heat and ensures its even distribution.
Attention: If the engine is hot, after turning it off, the fan will continue to work for some time - sometimes up to 10 minutes. Under certain circumstances associated with a change in the temperature regime in the engine compartment, the fan may spontaneously turn on, including when the engine is not running and even when the ignition is turned off. Therefore, during repair work or inspection of the engine compartment, be extremely careful!
