If the engine does not start because the battery is discharged, this is not dangerous. The situation is different if there is a malfunction in the ignition system: in this case, unburned particles of the working mixture can additionally ignite and raise the temperature in the catalyst to a dangerous level.

Starting the engine using a jumper cable

1. Park the car with a charged battery at such a distance that you can run the auxiliary wire on the right into the engine compartment of the Audi.

2. Check if all electrical consumers are disconnected in your de-energized vehicle.

3. Connect the positive terminals of both batteries with a wire.

4. First connect the other auxiliary wire to the negative terminal of the charged foreign battery, and then to the uninsulated ground (for example, directly to the engine) in the engine compartment of a de-energized vehicle.

5. Start the auxiliary vehicle engine at high speed so that the generator produces voltage intensively.

6. If the engine does not start immediately, let the starter cool down a little. Start the auxiliary engine again, as a result of which the discharged battery will be slightly charged.

7. When disconnecting the auxiliary wire to start the engine, first remove the wires from the negative terminal of the charged foreign battery.

Starting the engine from the "pusher"

The easiest way to start the engine is to push the car downhill. If there is no slope, muscle power will help, but two assistants are needed to push the Audi:

1. Turn on the ignition.

2. Put the engine in 1st gear. In higher gears the alternator turns too slowly to supply the current intensively.

3. Press the clutch pedal, push the car until it starts rolling.

4. Quickly engage the clutch. The engine will turn over sharply and should start.

5. Immediately press the clutch pedal and step on the gas.

Towing a car

When towing, find an experienced assistant in this matter so that due to an unprofessional approach you do not cause even more damage. And remember the following: when the engine is not running, the servo control and brake booster also do not work.

1. Turn on the ignition, put the transmission in 2nd gear and depress the clutch pedal.

2. The towing vehicle should start moving slowly.

3. At approximately 15 km/h, slowly engage the clutch, while placing your right hand on the handbrake.

4. If the engine starts, press the clutch pedal and step on the gas.

5. Gently apply the handbrake to avoid driving into the car in front.

6. The driver of the towed vehicle sounds the horn.

7. Disengage the gear, release the clutch pedal.

8. Apply the handbrake together with the towing vehicle.
