Audi has a so-called maintenance-free battery, which, due to the larger volume of fluid, should, under normal circumstances, do without the addition of distilled water throughout its entire service life.
Order of execution
1. Battery fluid must at least reach the lower of the two lacquer or embossed markings on the case and well cover the top edge of the plates.
2. If the liquid level has dropped, unscrew the plug.
3. If the battery is charged normally, then add distilled water to the upper mark or 15 mm above the top edge of the plates.
4. If the battery is heavily discharged, then add as much water as needed to cover the plates. When charging, the liquid level rises significantly.
5. Top up with distilled water to the upper mark only after charging the battery.
6. The amount of water to be added must be well metered, otherwise the accumulator will be overfilled.
7. An overfilled battery boils over the edge, acid protrudes from under the cork
Removing the battery
Removing the battery: remove the degassing hose. Loosen the minus terminal first (3), then remove the positive pole cover (4) and unscrew the positive terminal (5). Now you can loosen the bolt (1) on the mounting plate (2) battery base.
1. First make sure you have the anti-theft code for the radio so that it can be activated again after installation.
2. Always disconnect the wire connected to the minus first so that a short circuit does not occur during further work.
3. Loosen the nut on the negative terminal, disconnect the terminal.
4. Loosen the positive terminal and disconnect.
5. Unscrew the mounting bar bolt at the base of the battery, remove the bolt and remove the bar.
6. Remove plastic central degassing hose.
7. Remove the battery.
8. When installing, first connect the wire to the positive, then the negative terminal.
9. You can change the wire terminals only if you apply a lot of force, since the head of the positive pole is thicker than the head of the negative one.
10. Don't forget the central degassing hose.
11. If you have a radio with an anti-theft code, enter the code number again.
Caring for battery contacts
1. Wash off oxide crystals with warm alkaline water or treat «Noutralon» Warta firm.
2. Lubricate the battery terminal heads and wire terminals with an acid preventative (Bosch «Ft 40 v 1»).
3. Do not lubricate the sides of the pole heads and the inside of the terminals, otherwise contact difficulties may occur.
