- a) In some cases, a hydrogen sulfide smell may be felt from the exhaust system (the smell of rotten eggs). This is typical for many cars equipped with a catalytic converter. After a few thousand kilometers, the problem should disappear. Low-quality fuel with a high sulfur content can increase this effect.
- b) A catalytic converter on a well maintained and regularly serviced vehicle can last for 80,000-160,000 km - if the converter is no longer effective, replace it.
- c) Do not use fuel or oil additives - they may contain substances harmful to the catalytic converter.
- d) Do not operate the vehicle if the engine burns oil to the point of producing visible blue smoke.
- e) Remember that the catalytic converter operates at very high temperatures. DO NOT park the vehicle on dry long grass or piles of leaves.
- f) Remember that the catalytic converter is extremely fragile - do not hit it with tools during servicing work.
