- a) In some cases, the exhaust system may smell hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg smell). This is typical of many vehicles equipped with a catalytic converter. After a run of several thousand kilometers, the problem should disappear. Fuels with low quality and high sulfur content can exacerbate this effect.
- b) A catattic converter on a well maintained and regularly serviced vehicle can last 80,000-160,000 km - if the converter is no longer efficient, replace it.
- c) Do not use fuel or oil additives - they may contain substances harmful to the catalytic converter.
- d) Do not operate the vehicle if the engine is burning oil to the point of producing visible blue smoke.
- e) Remember that the catalytic converter operates at very high temperatures. DO NOT park your vehicle on dry, long grass or a pile of leaves.
- f) Remember that the catalytic converter is extremely fragile - do not hit it with tools during maintenance work.
