Removal

1. On engines equipped with a turbo generator, it is recommended to remove the turbo generator together with the exhaust manifold and then separate the units. This is recommended because some of the turbo generator mounting nuts are not accessible using regular wrenches. Also, to improve access on these engines, the intake manifold can be removed first.

2. Apply the handbrake, then jack up the front of the car and place it on axle stands.

3. Remove the lower skid plate from under the engine compartment.

4. Remove the nuts and disconnect the exhaust outlet pipe from the turbo generator or exhaust manifold. Support the exhaust outlet pipe on an axle stand and remove the gasket.

5. On turbocharged models, disconnect the vacuum hoses and air intake duct from the turbocharger. Also remove the union nuts, and disconnect the feed and return oil pipes. Unscrew the return pipe from the crankcase and remove the gasket.

6. Gradually loosen the mounting nuts and remove the washers, then remove the exhaust manifold from the struts on the cylinder head. Remove the gaskets (see illustrations).

7. Place the manifold on the workbench, unscrew the mounting nuts and remove the turbogenerator. Remove the gaskets. Discard the nuts and use new ones when reassembling.

Installation

8. Clean the mating surfaces of the manifold and cylinder head, then install new gaskets on the struts.

9. Install the turbo generator on the manifold together with the new gasket, and tighten the new mounting nuts to the specified tightening torque Specifications.

10. Install the manifold on the struts on the cylinder head and tighten the nuts to the specified tightening torque Specifications.

11. On turbo-generator models, connect the oil feed and return pipes with new gaskets or O-rings. Tighten the nuts and bolts to the specified torque Specifications.

12. Attach the exhaust outlet pipe to the turbo generator or manifold with a new gasket. Tighten the nuts to the specified torque Specifications.

13. Install the lower skid plate, then lower the vehicle to the ground.
