Information
1. The EGR system consists of an EGR valve, a modulator valve, and a series of vacuum hose connections.
2. The EGR valve is mounted on a flanged connection in the intake manifold and is connected by a hose to a second flanged connection in the exhaust manifold.
3. The EGR modulator valve is mounted on the right front suspension tower on or on the bulkhead.
Component Replacement
Exhaust gas recirculation valve
4. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the port on the EGR valve (see illustrations).
5. Remove the bolts that secure the EGR valve to the intake manifold flange and remove the gasket. Throw it away - use a new one when installing (see illustrations).
6. Remove the nuts that secure the semi-flex connector to the exhaust manifold and remove the EGR valve assembly. Remove and discard the gasket - it must be replaced (see illustrations).
7. If necessary, unscrew the bolts and remove the semi-flexible hose from the exhaust gas recirculation valve. Remove and discard gasket.
8. Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:
- a) Use new flange gaskets and self-locking nuts.
- b) When installing a semi-flexible hose, insert the mounting bolts, make sure that the pipe is not stressed, and tighten the bolts with the tightening torque specified specifications.
9. Disconnect wiring from valve.
10. Mark the location of the vacuum hoses, then disconnect them from the valve.
11. Turn off mounting bolts, and remove the valve from the right tower of a forward suspension bracket.
12. Install in reverse order.
Warning: Make sure the vacuum hoses are installed correctly.
