1. Block the front wheels, jack up the rear of the vehicle and support it on axle stands. Remove the relevant rear wheel, then fully release the handbrake.
2. Loosen the handbrake cable fixing nut on the cable compensator, then disconnect the end of the cable from the compensator lever.
3. On models with rear drum brakes, remove the brake drum as described in Chapter 7, disconnect the end of the cable from the brake shoe lever and remove the cable from the shield.
4. On models with a rear disc brake, remove the bracket that secures the handbrake cable to the caliper housing, then release the end of the cable from the control lever.
5. On all models, remove the cable and sealing ring from the trailing arm, release the mounting brackets and remove the cable from under the car.
6. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Adjust the cable as described in Chapter 19.
