Motronic throttle cable

In the passenger compartment, the throttle cable (1) with its nipple (3), under which a spring is placed, is suspended in a forked eye on the upper end of the gas pedal (2) as shown here.

Injection valves (5, 6, 7 and 8) are removed together with the distribution pipe (3) and pressure regulator (4). To do this, disconnect the fuel supply (2) and return (1) pipes and unscrew the distribution pipe bolts.

The connecting cable between the gas pedal and the throttle valve pipe must not bend. When working in the engine compartment, make sure that the disconnected cable is not folded at an unfavorable angle, as a result of which it could be damaged.

Replacing the throttle cable

1. In the engine compartment, remove the fastening bracket at the end of the cable and the detachable retainer at the point where the cable sheath is attached.

2. In the passenger compartment, remove the trim on the left under the instrument panel, see chapter Salon.

3. Remove the throttle cable retaining nipple from the eyelet at the top of the gas pedal.

4. Press the rubber tip out of the rear wall of the engine compartment.

5. Turn the tip in the partition towards the passenger compartment by 90° to the left and remove it.

6. Pull out the throttle cable.

7. Do not bend the new throttle cable when inserting the rubber ends into the bulkhead.

Adjusting the throttle cable

1. Press the gas pedal all the way down.

2. Move the throttle lever to the full throttle position.

3. Insert the split retainer into the corresponding notch on the throttle cable housing on the counter support.

4. The throttle lever gap when the gas pedal is fully depressed should be a maximum of 1 mm.

Tip: After disconnecting the connectors of the Motronic ignition/injection control unit and after disconnecting the battery, all values obtained as a result of the so-called learning are erased in the control unit. The independent adaptation of the control unit to the engine data is "forgotten" and the idle speed may be too high or unstable. During a short test drive, the control unit "learns" to adapt to the engine data. However, the learning process is blocked if information about a permanent fault is entered into the computer. In this case, the fault memory must first be read and the information erased. Sporadic faults, such as those caused by disconnecting a sensor connector, do not hinder the learning process.
