1. Block the front wheels, jack up the rear of the vehicle and support it on axle stands. Release the handbrake.
2. From under the car, unscrew the fixing nut of the handbrake cable (photo 19.4), remove the washer and pull the compensator off the control rod.
3. From inside the vehicle, pull off the protective boot to access the lever mechanism.
4. Disconnect the electrical wiring of the parking brake indicator switch.
5. Remove the circlip, remove the pivot bolt and remove the lever assembly.
6. If necessary, the ratchet can be removed by sawing off the heads of the rivets and removing the internal parts (pic. 9.34).
7. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Lubricate the pivot shaft and compensator with multipurpose grease. Finally, adjust the handbrake as described in Chapter 19.
