2. From under the car, unscrew the handbrake cable fastening nut (photo 19.4), remove the washer and pull the compensator off the control rod.

3. From inside the vehicle, pull back the protective cover to gain access to the lever mechanism.
4. Disconnect the parking brake indicator switch wiring.
5. Remove the retaining ring, take out the pivot bolt and remove the lever assembly.
6. If necessary, the ratchet can be removed by filing down the rivet heads and removing the internal parts (Fig. 9.34).

7. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Lubricate the pivot axis and compensator with universal grease. Finally, adjust the handbrake as described in Chapter 19.
