Note: On models equipped with an anti-lock braking system, refer to Chapter 28 before continuing.
1. Before removing the brake line or hose, unscrew the filler cap of the master cylinder reservoir and completely fill the reservoir. Place a piece of polyethylene over the filler neck and secure with a rubber band. This will limit the loss of brake fluid during the following steps.
2. To remove the hard tube of the brake system, unscrew the connecting nuts from each end, remove the holder brackets and remove the tube. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
3. To remove the flexible brake hose, unscrew the union nut that secures the hard tube to the end of the flexible hose. Remove the mounting bracket and remove the hose from the suspension. Unscrew the remaining end, release the mounting brackets or hangers, remove the hose from the vehicle. Installation is carried out in the reverse order (photo).
4. After installing a rigid pipe or flexible hose, and whenever a pipe or hose coupling is disconnected, bleed the hydraulic system as described in Chapter 17.
