To remove the air filter element, do the following:
- Remove the air intake hose from the air cleaner housing and from the front air intake.
- Pull the magnetic valve for the activated carbon filter system out of the mount and set it aside without removing the hoses.
- For non-turbocharged vehicles, unclip the four spring clips and remove the housing cover. The attached hose may remain on it. Remove the filter element.
- On turbocharged engines, remove the heat shield and expose the thin wire. Remove the retaining tape on the air hose and remove the hose.
- Unclip the four spring clips.
- Disconnect the plug from the temperature sensor, from the ignition system output stage and from the air flow meter (under the rubber bushing). If necessary, cut the wire clamps.
- Remove the filter element. First, beat the contaminated element against a wooden block to remove large contaminants. If compressed air is available, blow it through the filter element without directing the air stream directly at the filter material.
- The filter is installed in the reverse order of removal.
